RCSP – Riverbed Certified Solutions Professional certificate

The Riverbed Certified Solutions Professional certificate is granted to individuals who demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience with the RiOS product suite. The typical RCSP will have taken a Riverbed approved training class such as the Steelhead Appliance Deployment & Management course in addition to having hands-on experience in performing deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of RiOS products in small, medium, and large organizations. While there are no set requirements prior to taking the exam, candidates who have taken a Riverbed authorized training class and have at least six months of hands-on experience with RiOS products have a significantly higher chance of receiving the certification RCSP_StudyGuide … [Read more...]

RiOS Upgrade and Downgrade Rules

Software Versions: 4.1 and later Category: Best Practices ,Management Solution Number: 201 Rules for upgrading and downgrading your RiOS software. Riverbed develops multiple RiOS versions in parallel. This means that RiOS 5.5 is being developed at the same time as RiOS 6.0,  6.1 and so on. Because of this, upgrading is not a simple matter of loading a RiOS version with a higher version number. While a higher version number is required, the key factor is the date on the RiOS version was released. You can only upgrade RiOS to another version that is both higher in version number AND chronologically newer. This means that depending on release dates, some but not all 4.1.x > 5.0.x upgrades are allowed. Similarly, some but not all 5.0.x > 5.5.x and 5.5.x > 6.0.x upgrades are allowed.  This is the reason that RiOS 5.5.7 cannot be directly upgraded to RiOS 6.0.x.  In that case, you need to downgrade to a version of 5.5.6 that was previously installed on that Steelhead and then upgrade to version 6.0.x. Following are some examples of allowed and disallowed upgrades: Upgrading 4.1.9 (3/30/2009) => 5.0.5 (10/22/2008) is not allowed (4.1.9 is newer than 5.0.5) Upgrading 4.1.9 (3/30/2009) => 5.0.9 (8/25/2009) is allowed (5.0.9 is newer than 4.1.9) Upgrading 5.0.9 (8/25/2009) => 5.5.1 (1/27/2009) is not allowed (5.0.9 is newer than 5.5.1) Upgrading 5.0.9 (8/25/2009) => 5.5.5 (9/16/2009) is allowed (5.5.5 is newer than 5.0.9) NOTE: Beginning with RiOS 6.0.3, unsupported upgrades are blocked before they can be installed. Upgrading between major versions IMPORTANT: You should upgrade RiOS ONLY to the next major version. DO NOT skip intermediate major versions. The current sequence of major versions is 4.1.X > 5.0.X > 5.5.X > 6.0.X > 6.1.X.  For example you might upgrade 4.1.x to 5.0.x, but not 4.1.x directly to 5.5.x. This ensures that critical information from the configuration … [Read more...]
